Today was a great day! I was able to take over for two of the 9th
grade teachers today for the first time.
I had been planning on taking over one of the classes (3rd
period) for a while. But then during lunch there was another 9th
grade teacher that came up to me and asked if I would come in and teach a
lesson. Lief, the first 9th
grade teacher, said that I passed his class meaning that I did a good job
teaching his students. I was glad that
he said that because he thought that I did a good job. I don’t remember the second teachers’ name
but he thought that I did a good job with his class as well. So I got a bunch of positive feedback from
those two teachers. It was nice to be
able to teach the same lesson back to back.
That way I was able to emphasize somethings more than others to help out
the students with their practice problems that would come after my instruction.
I also was able to take over the 10a class
for the whole period. Erland was there
to support but he pretty much let me take control. The lesson was on simple probability on
sample space. In my lesson earlier today
I remembered to have the Norwegian word for those important English vocabulary
words. But I forgot for sample
space. While I was explaining the
notation for sample space Erland said the Norwegian word for sample space
(utfallsrom) and that helped the students out a lot. The students seemed to enjoy the quarters
that I gave to them. After the lesson,
Erland talked about how he thought that the lesson went well. Those students that usually participate
still participated and it seemed like all of the students were understanding
what I was saying.
Today wasn't my day for observation, though maybe I will wish that today would have been the day. We shall see what tomorrow has in store. Donna and Sylvia visited Sarah and Kylie today. Tomorrow they will observe Brooke and I. After school we all rode the bus from Husnes back to Rosendal. We went to the grocery store so that Sylvia and Donna could buy groceries for tonight's dinner. It was a nice meal. We had a couple kinds of fish. I am not going to say that I am a fan of fish or anything but I was able to eat the fish. So that is a good start away from not eating fish. Then we also had some ice cream and berries. As we ate that Sylvia and Donna asked interview questions and we all had time to answer the questions. For example, ''tell us a little about yourself'', ''what is something you learned doing student teaching in Norway?'' ''describe your teaching in three words.'' It was good practice so that we can think about what we would say.
I don't think that I took any pictures of the affair so sorry for the lack of pictures.
How did your observation go?
