24c: Oslo - Day 3 - Sunday

Nate woke up and cooked breakfast.  He cooked 6 eggs and a bunch of bacon and shared it with me.  After, I ran to the bus stop to see what time the bus would come so that we wouldn’t miss the bus to go to the center of the city and to go to church. Here is the schedule of the bus times:

Nate, Sarah, Julia, Megan and I left the house and started on our way to church.  We rode the bus and then made our way onto the metro.  Pretty quick after I got on the metro I noticed that there was this lady that was looking at me.  There was something familiar about the way that the girl looked.  A little while into the trip somebody talked.  The lady was going to church with her husband just like we were.  It was pretty funny that I could tell that she was going to church right about the time that we got on the train.  We had a nice little conversation and then followed them off the metro and then up the street up to church.  It was nice that we had run into them because then we were led to church rather than trying to find it.  We would have found it but this was so much easier.

At church we were heartily welcomed by many missionaries and also members of the ward there.  We first went to Priesthood meeting and there was English translation via headsets so that was nice.  Then we went downstairs and had Sunday School in English with a bunch of foreigners (like myself) and that was good as well.  At that time Sarah decided that she wanted to be safe and so she left right after that.  The rest of us wanted to try and catch the sacrament.  So we stayed a little bit longer.  Unfortunately for us time went too quickly and it was time for us to leave and they hadn’t sang the Hymn yet.  So we decided that we were just going to leave anyways.

We hurried to gather our belongings and then head out the door.  We took the few seconds to each take a picture in front of the church with the sign but then we were off.  I actually nabbed Julia’s carryon and carried it so that we could go faster.  We were almost running to get to the metro.  We got there at a good time because we still had a couple minutes before our metro train came.  I know that I was counting my blessings.

We take the metro back to the center of the city and then walk over to the bus station and find the other girls that didn’t go to church with us.  But there was no Sarah.  Many of us were worried.  So I called a couple of times but she didn’t answer.  Finally, after like calling 5 times, she did pick up and said that she was okay and on her way.

Sarah made it on the bus with time to spare.  Then we were off again.  We were on that bus for a long time.  I wish I would have had a dinner on the bus to eat but I didn’t have anything to eat.  I didn’t ask anyone else because I was feeling kind of crummy and car sick and so didn’t want to get up.

The bus went through some very pretty landscape by going from Oslo to Odda.  When we left Oslo it was 11 degrees Celsius.  In the middle of Norway it had cooled down to 0 an there was snow falling and snow on the road.  It was interesting to see the difference.  I was a little bit concerned at the snow on the road but at the same time I was calm because the driver is a professional and he has probably driven that route a number of times.

All of the student teachers really liked the look of Odda.  There were steep, steep, mountains with a view of the fjord.  There was also some nice buildings.  I was excited because there was a central walkway like there is in Oslo and Bergen where I assume that lots of people walk.

We weren’t home yet though.  We still had to ride the bus from Odda to Rosendal.  I was second on the bus and decided that I wanted to sit near the middle right behind the second door on the driver’s side.  Nate came back and joined me on the passenger’s side.  The girls were all up in the front though.   It was as segregated as middle school dances are.   The girls started playing the game Truth or Truth (Truth or Dare without the dare).  It was at the second question that I was like “meh, I don’t care to listen to what they are saying.  I am going to rock out to my music.”  That is what I did.  I enjoyed myself.  I guess I also provided some good entertainment for the girls as well.  Something about bus dancing or lip syncing.  I don’t remember.

We got back to Rosendal and it was raining.  Typical West Coast Norway right there.
